So here is the Reverend Jerry Falwell, multi millionaire American preacher, boldly criticising people who manipulate the bible in order to fit their particular lifestyle. This is a man who abhors homosexuality because the Bible condemns it, and yet he earns his living by preaching on the Sabbath, or at least, what he believes to be the Sabbath. The Bible condemns to death anyone who works on the Sabbath.
Falwell reminds me of a kid in a tuck shop with his hand in the lolly jar fishing out the banana splits, raspberry ripples and chocolate eclairs while avoiding the aniseed balls and toffees. Of course it's human nature to do that but for a man of Falwell's wealth and influence to appear on television criticizing others for doing what he and his ilk do every day of their lives is the height of hypocrisy.
Falwell and thousands of wealthy Christians like him are fond of quoting Leviticus and Acts where homosexuality is condemned, but loathe to quote their Lord Jesus Christ when he clearly states, "It is harder for a rich man to enter the kingdon of heaven than for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle."
Falwell is a man who thumps the Bible when it proclaims things that are to his liking, while disregarding the bits that apply to him. How he explains his wealth and his working on the Sabbath – indeed, the fact that he prays in public in direct opposition to Jesus' express commandment – is beside the point. The fact is, he manipulates the Bible to fit his lifestyle.
And he does it BIG TIME!
Hey Jerry, try a humbug, it's got your name on it!
