GOOD GOD BAD GOD

Judeo/Christianity would have us believe that right from the word "go" there were two opposing forces – the 'good' being represented by the Hebrew god JWHW (Jehovah) and the 'bad' by the serpent who tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden.

Let's think about that. What did the serpent do that was so wrong? Well, it offered Eve some fruit from the Tree of Knowledge. We should ask ourselves, "What was so bad about knowledge?" Why was JHWH so determined to prevent humans from acquiring knowledge? Later on in Exodus the "good" gods (yes, plural) destroyed the Tower of Babel and confounded the people's language so as to prevent the various races from communicating. Their crime? They were striving for knowledge and trying to draw closer to the gods.

MULTIPLE ATROCITIES

Then JHWH demonstrates his alleged goodness by drowning the entire population of the world except for one old drunk and his family. Next he murders thousands of of ordinary people throughout Egypt – civilians who had nothing whatsoever to do with the Pharaoh's wrongdoing. God sends ten plagues to make their lives unbearable. And remember, the people were guilty of absolutely nothing. Oddly, he does nothing to punish the Pharaoh himself. The Pharaoh actually agreed to release the slaves but JHWH "hardened his heart" so as to prolong the cruel game. Not content with his record of pitiless barbarity, JHWH then goes on to burn to death the citizens of Sodom and Gomorrah – including innocent children and babies – on the lame pretext that some adults were misbehaving.

JHWH instructs Moses, Joshua and Saul to destroy city after city and to slaughter every man, woman, child and "suckling" (baby). "Spare none alive!" he rants. He then inflicts thousands of men with haemorrhoids for looking inside a box, he threatens to wipe excrement across the face of anyone who displeases him and he has forty-two mischievous children ripped apart by wild bears to punish them for calling a man "old baldhead".

My point is – where is the goodness here? Where is the mercy?

BATTLE IN HEAVEN

And then we're expected to believe there was a battle in heaven between JHWH and Lucifer. Lucifer lost the battle and was expelled from heaven, so the story goes.

We've already established that the Lucifer was guilty of one thing only – trying to spread knowledge. But his main crime was in opposing the diabolical and sadistic cruelty of His Vileness – Jehovah. Moses refers to Jehovah as "a man of war", and sure enough, whenever the Hebrews had an inkling to slaughter a few thousand innocent people they could always count on Jehovah's enthusiastic support.

MIXED UP GODS

It seems to me that we've got our gods mixed up. We have, for thousands of years, been worshiping the god of hate, war and misery, which might explain why we have, over the centuries, experienced little but hate, war and misery.

And then along comes Jesus, whom his followers refer to as the "Prince of Peace". If he was the "Prince of Peace" why did he insist that he had come NOT to bring peace, but a sword? Why, just prior to his arrest, did he order his disciples to buy swords? Why, if he was so full of love, did he instruct his followers to hate their mothers and fathers, their husbands and wives and their sons and daughters? Why, if he was so full of compassion, did he instruct every heterosexual man to mutilate himself or risk the fires of hell?

The truth is, both these so-called "good" gods were in fact, loathsome and despicable tyrants.

Which brings us back to Lucifer.

ROLE REVERSAL

While we are not advocating that we worship Lucifer we are suggesting that we'd be better off with a rebellious god as our focus than two dreadful, diabolical and hideous gods who, were they human, would surely be executed or consigned to a mental institution!

We don't know much about Lucifer other than he is referred to in the Bible as the "Bringer of Light" and that he was worshiped by ancient religions as the god of fertility and life. According to the Bible he tried to spread knowledge and he fought a battle against the evil god JHWH.

Lucifer lost the battle and was cast out of heaven. Ever since he has been repressed by ignorance and superstition. Perhaps now is the time to rescue him from his confinement and unleash him onto a dumb, stupid and superstitious world?

As a species we've suffered four thousand years of ignorance, war and misery, that should be enough for anyone, surely?
